From Amazon.com Spider-Man fanatics that can't wait another two years for the sequel to the 2002 theatrical blockbuster are encouraged to check out Buena Vista Home Video's second DVD of the web-slinger's animated adventures, which provides enough action and cliffhanger suspense to satiate all but the most rabid of Spidey's supporters. The feature is actually a five-episode story arc culled from the 1994-'98 animated television series. True to Marvel Comics fashion, a multitude of plot threads and familiar characters (including the Punisher) are woven throughout the main story line, which finds Spider-Man struggling not only to defeat the Green Goblin, the Hobgoblin, and the Kingpin, but also to clear the Daily Bugle's Robbie Robertson of criminal charges and rescue girlfriend Mary Jane Watson! It's a fast and furious 80 minutes, abetted by strong vocal performances and better-than-usual animation, though the occasional mix of computer and cel art clashes noticeably. --Paul Gaita
Additional Features Interestingly, while the feature itself is slated toward younger viewers, the supplemental material has a nostalgic slant that seems aimed toward pleasing their parents. Marvel Comics main man Stan Lee is featured on an optional commentary track, as well as in a 15-minute interview titled "Stan Lee's Soapbox." Both features touch more on Lee's life and the creation of the characters than on the episodes themselves, which may disappoint fans hungry for information about the series. But Lee's enthusiasm and history is a fun and informative background for newcomers to the Marvel universe. The disc also offers an episode from the 1967 Spider-Man animated series (which pits Spidey against Doctor Octopus as well as the Green Goblin) as well as a "Rogues' Gallery" interactive game. Oddly, the fifth (and most important) episode is offered in the supplemental menu, and not as part of the main feature. --Paul Gaita

Spider-Man - The Return of the Green Goblin January 1, 2003 This dvd was amazing. But why don't they put the whole series on dvds insead of just episodes with the green goblin or character that they have made a movie of. Like theres a new daredevil film so they made the deredevil vs spiderman dvd
The Disney Video of this makes no sense. December 11, 2002 What I really find annoying is that these episodes come from poor film prints with low quality sound and picture detail. It would have been better if 20th century Fox had released these on DVD because it was on the Fox stations that these shows aired on, and they make very good DVDs.
Great episodes that should not be missed! December 3, 2002 This DVD is watched over and over by my 6 year old son. It is out of order - even within the DVD and the episode where Harry turns into the Green Goblin is under Bonus Materials. But it is still a great collection of episodes.
These compilations make no sense November 3, 2002 Simon (Brampton, ON) Buena Vista has released another DVD that compiles the 90's animated Spider-Man series, this time to coincide with the DVD of the theaterical feature. While there are many negatives to this release, the overall package is one that fans will want to snag along with the movie.I'm still baffled as to why the episodes are being packaged this way. The series consisted of many story arcs that ran through multiple seasons, and should not be chopped up and grouped like this. In fact, one episode here doesn't feature the Goblins as prominent villains, and another omits them entirely. Their inclusion on this disc is to help tie up the loose ends of the story, but since the title of this disc is "The Return of the Green Goblin", they seem out of place. However, it's nice to see that even if Buena Vista is releasing compilations, the episodes are all in sequence. This ensures a bit of continuity should the rest of the series be eventually released. There are also some pretty cool extras, including a fifth episode (even though it's out of order), another episode of the classic 1967 series, interviews with Stan Lee, and a mini game that's actually fun to play; my friend and I learned some things from the mini game about Spider-Man that we never knew before. Plus, unlike the "Ultimate Villain Showdown", the episodes on this disc are some of the high-points of the series and should not be missed. Plans have already been made to release another DVD featuring the Spider-Man/Daredevil team-up episodes to coincide with the movie when it arrives next year. This is good reassurance that more episodes will be released, and an incentive to buy this DVD. While the compilation format is dubious, the overall quality of the episodes along with the good extras and cheap price means that no Spidey fan should pass this disc up.
SPIDER-MAN RULES! October 30, 2002 I'm proud to say that this DVD edition is cool. It has some of the best episodes from the series...all in order from their original air dates. Although there are only 2 episodes with the Green Goblin and that they forgot the other episode where Harry Osborne becomes the Green Goblin, the DVD is still worth the purchase. I would have preferred that they released the DVD's by season like "Friends" & "Buffy..." but if your like any major Spider-Man fan...it's worth spending the cash!
